Live — in Build ▸ Review WriterAsk a research question. IdeaM searches the open scholarly record, gathers the papers that matter, and writes a fully cited first draft straight into your outline — where you shape it into your own.
Today
Hours of manual searching
Database after database, chasing PDFs, copying references by hand, and starting the writing with a blank page.
With Review Writer
A cited draft in your outline
The papers found, read and weighed question by question — a bottom line, an evidence table and a verdict for each question, with every reference attached — ready for you to reorganise and rewrite.
01Gather
Your research question, the field, the years to cover, and the kind of review: narrative, systematic-style or scoping.
02Gather
Free, open scholarly databases — OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, PubMed / Europe PMC and arXiv. Together, hundreds of millions of papers with abstracts and citation counts.
03Gather
Unpaywall, PubMed Central and arXiv point to legal open-access copies — PubMed Central is looked up from the DOI when an index missed it — so the reading goes beyond the abstract wherever it can.
04You decide
The candidate papers land in your outline, one item per paper. Delete the ones you don't want before a word is written — the review is built only on the papers you keep.
05Write
Full text where it is open, the abstract otherwise — and each paper is marked with which, so you always know what the writing rests on.
06Write
An evidence table, then one argument by question — each weighed by study design and size, disagreements explained, a verdict with a confidence rating — opening with a bottom line, written into your outline where every section can be reorganised and rewritten.
07Check
Every citation must match a paper actually retrieved. DOIs are re-checked, and anything unmatched is removed.
08Deliver
A formatted PDF with title page, abstract and references, plus a BibTeX / RIS file for your citation manager.
AI writers are known for inventing references. Review Writer works the other way round: it can only cite what it actually retrieved, so every reference in the draft points to a paper you can open and read.
Open scholarly infrastructure, built by the research community — hundreds of millions of papers with abstracts and citation counts.
OpenAlex
An open catalogue of the world's research, across every field.
Semantic Scholar
Papers with abstracts, citation counts and who-cites-whom.
Crossref
The registry behind DOIs — how each reference is re-checked.
PubMed / Europe PMC
Biomedical and life-sciences literature, much of it in full text.
arXiv
Preprints in physics, mathematics, computing and more.
Unpaywall
Finds the legal, free full-text copy of a paper wherever one exists.

“Compared with no intervention or usual care, intermittent fasting lowers fasting glucose at 6 months (high confidence) [1, 2]. Compared with no intervention or usual care, intermittent fasting has inconsistent effects on HbA1c over 3–6 months (moderate confidence) [1, 3, 4].”
“Specifically, when comparing IF against an active alternative, one randomised controlled trial demonstrated a benefit when comparing 5:2 MR against metformin and empagliflozin [5], whereas another randomised controlled trial comparing an intermittent energy restriction diet to a continuous energy restriction diet found no difference in HbA1c [9].”
